Inspiring tomorrow’s female engineers: Syntronic hosts technical workshops for students
As part of Syntronic’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive tech industry, the company regularly opens its headquarters in Gävle, Sweden, to female high school students for a series of immersive technical workshops.
Organized within the framework of the Technical College program—a collaborative effort bridging education and industry—these workshops provide students with hands-on experience and opportunities to connect with role models. The latest round of workshops took place last week.
“For young people, it can be challenging to envision the opportunities that a STEM career has to offer,” explains Håkan Sjörling, engineering consultant and lead coordinator for the Technical College initiative at Syntronic.
“Through these workshops, students can ask questions, meet some of our engineers, and get a glance into our work environment,” he adds.
Hands-on experience
At the workshops, students get to team up with some of Syntronic’s experienced female engineers to build and program their own robots, as a practical hands-on experience. The engineers also share their career paths and encourage the participants to ask any questions that they may have about engineering careers.
Moreover, students are also invited to tour Syntronic’s cutting-edge lab facilities in connection with the workshops. It is an opportunity for them to get a behind-the-scenes view of the global engineering design house’s headquarters.
By engaging with students early, Syntronic hopes to contribute to reducing the gender gap in technology in the long-term. Another round of workshops is planned for next semester.
