Product Description
Syntronic partnered with a fast-growing robotics and industrial automation OEM specializing in autonomous floor-cleaning and inventory management systems to deliver a turnkey hardware development and embedded systems modernization program for their mission-critical control processor platform.
While the client possessed strong in-house expertise in AI/ML algorithms, SLAM-based navigation, and application-layer software, they faced growing risks at the hardware level. Key silicon components were approaching obsolescence, their previous EMS partner had withdrawn, internal EE and embedded bandwidth was limited, and production scalability was becoming constrained.
By engaging Syntronic as a full turnkey design and product realization partner, the customer gained access to cross-functional engineering expertise spanning PCB design, embedded firmware, mechanical integration, component engineering, and DFM/DFT optimization. This holistic approach reduced technical debt, stabilized the platform, and accelerated time-to-market for next-generation robotic systems.
Scope
Syntronic assumed end-to-end ownership of the control processor card under a complete NPI-to-production model. Following the discontinuation of the previous EMS partner, engineers familiar with earlier design iterations were onboarded to preserve critical product knowledge and minimize transition delays. This ensured continuity and avoided costly disruption to the client’s commercialization roadmap.
The engagement included PCB re-architecture and high-speed digital redesign, migration to a next-generation SoC/MPU processor platform, embedded firmware integration and BSP adaptation, as well as power and signal integrity validation. Thermal and mechanical re-validation were conducted in parallel with component engineering and supply chain risk mitigation, ensuring the redesigned platform was both technically robust and manufacturable. Prototyping, EVT/DVT support, and preparation for production ramp were managed within the same engineering governance structure, reducing cross-functional friction and compressing development cycles.
To address performance bottlenecks and component end-of-life risks, Syntronic re-architected the control processor around a modern silicon platform with increased compute headroom for AI/ML workloads, expanded I/O bandwidth for sensor fusion, updated power management topology, and improved EMI/EMC robustness. The redesign secured long-term silicon availability and extended the product lifecycle by 3–5 years, while ensuring forward compatibility with future autonomous robot SKUs.
Throughout the program, Syntronic maintained transparent, milestone-based collaboration, allowing the client’s engineering leadership to focus on core differentiators while Syntronic managed full hardware execution and production readiness.
Results
The collaboration enabled the robotics OEM to successfully relaunch and scale its autonomous systems platform while mitigating both strategic and operational risks. The redesigned control processor delivered improved reliability, stronger manufacturing yield, and enhanced supply chain resilience, with zero reported field failures following deployment.
By modernizing the processor architecture and optimizing the hardware platform for manufacturability, Syntronic extended the product lifecycle by 3–5 years and accelerated the customer’s return to market. Just as importantly, the customer avoided the need to build and scale an internal hardware engineering organization, freeing internal teams to concentrate on AI, navigation software, and user experience innovation while relying on Syntronic for scalable, production-ready hardware platform delivery.
