We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive the design, development, and maintenance of complex software products within the Android ecosystem. This role spans the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), requiring a full-stack mindset to manage everything from user interface components to deep server-side and system-level architecture.

As a technical leader, you will not only contribute high-level code but also guide a team of junior developers, ensuring the adoption of industry best practices in an Agile environment. This position is ideal for an expert in AOSP who can navigate the complexities of Android middleware, multimedia, and system-level communications.

What you'll do

  • Software Development & Architecture: Design, implement, and support new feature development using Java and Kotlin, utilizing proof-of-concepts and prototypes to validate technical directions.

  • AOSP Leadership: Lead the implementation of system-level components, including headless services, APIs, AIDLs, HAL, and HIDL.

  • Technical Mentorship: Lead a small team of junior developers, providing guidance, conducting design reviews, and performing constructive code reviews.

  • Quality & Testing: Establish rigorous testing standards by writing comprehensive unit tests and utilizing frameworks like gtest, gmock, Robolectric, and Mockito.

  • System Troubleshooting: Investigate, debug, and resolve complex bugs, race conditions, and bottlenecks using advanced tools like gdb and static analysis.

  • Agile Collaboration: Work within an integrated team of developers and test engineers to investigate design options and deliver features that meet precise customer requirements.

  • Innovation: Explore AI tools for software development and implement MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and tools to improve engineering efficiency.

What you'll need to get the job done

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience in Java and/or Kotlin.

  • 4+ years of dedicated Android application and system development.

  • 3+ years in a technical leadership or team lead capacity.

  • Direct experience with the AOSP level (Services, HAL, HIDL, AIDL).

  • Experience with Multimedia and/or USB stacks on Android.

  • Expert-level Java and Kotlin.

  • Android Tools: Strong command of ADB, xTS (diagnosing issues reported by xTS), and streaming technologies (Bluetooth/USB).

  • CS Fundamentals: Strong grasp of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.

  • Testing Frameworks: Proficiency with gtest, gmock, Robolectric, and Mockito.

What will make us REALLY love you

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and experience using AI tools in the development process.

  • Experience implementing MCP servers and tools.
