Tomas Erlandsson, Production Manager:
“At Syntronic, you’re encouraged to grow and explore new challenges”
We talk to Tomas, Production Manager of Syntronic’s manufacturing site in Sandviken, which specializes in box build, cable assembly, mechanical assembly and construction. With a lifelong passion for mechanics and engineering, Tomas brings a wealth of hands-on experience to his leadership role.
Born and raised in Gävle, Tomas discovered his interest in technology early on. “I’ve always been curious about how things work,” he says. “It started with LEGO and grew into a deep fascination for mechanics.” That interest led him to study automation in high school, followed by his first role at Ericsson. Since then, he has worked in a wide range of roles within the mechanical field, steadily building a broad and practical skill set.
“I made a conscious effort to work across the full chain, from engineering and design to production and maintenance,” Tomas explains. “That variety has given me a deeper understanding of how everything fits together, which is really valuable in a leadership role,” he adds.
Tomas’ journey with Syntronic began several years ago when he led the mechanical workshop in Sandviken. After a few years in a strategic planning role at a large industrial company, he returned to Syntronic in mid-2023 to take on the position of Production Manager. “The offer to lead a growing site at a workplace that I had positive experiences of was a great opportunity for me,” he says.
In his current role, Tomas oversees a dynamic and expanding operation that spans two departments. Right now, to combine the expertise within cable assembly and competence in RF, one of the focus areas in Sandviken is the production of high-performance RF cables. “These are technically challenging products, but we have built a team with the right skills and tools to deliver top-quality results,” he explains. “There is strong demand for this type of work, and we are proud of our capability to meet it.”
“We have a flat structure where everyone’s ideas matter, regardless of title”
Freedom to develop
For Tomas, one of the things that sets Syntronic apart is the freedom to develop. “Here, you are not locked into a box. Your interests and abilities are taken seriously, and you are encouraged to explore new paths. That is something I haven’t experienced to the same extent elsewhere, he says.
He also highlights the open and inclusive culture. “We have a flat structure where everyone’s ideas matter, regardless of title,” he says. “We also have an even gender balance at the site, which is unusual in a production setting.”
End-to-end model
Looking ahead to the future, Tomas believes Syntronic’s ability to support customers throughout the entire product lifecycle is a major advantage that will result in continued growth. “From concept and design to production and aftermarket services, we offer complete solutions. That’s something our customers really appreciate,” he comments.
With the backing of Syntronic’s global R&D expertise, Tomas feels confident about the road ahead for the site that he leads in Sandviken. “Having that level of knowledge and support behind us gives us the confidence to take on complex challenges and keep growing. It’s a great place to be,” he concludes.
