Product Description
Syntronic was selected as the electronics design partner for a wireless antenna solution used within a patient care system for in-clinic programming and follow-up of implantable cardiac devices. The antenna enables secure and reliable wireless communication between a clinical programmer and compatible implantable devices such as pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and cardiac monitors.
The solution was engineered to meet stringent medical device requirements for reliability, signal integrity, and long-term availability. Designed for continuous use in clinical environments, the wireless antenna has delivered stable and dependable performance for nearly two decades, supporting accurate device programming and patient care workflows worldwide.
Scope
Syntronic was responsible for the complete electronics design of the wireless antenna, including design verification testing (DVT) and the development of robust production test systems. The engagement covered hardware design, simulations, verification activities, and the creation of scalable production test solutions to ensure consistent quality across long-term, high-volume manufacturing.
The production test systems were designed with a strong focus on maintainability and reliability, enabling efficient manufacturing over the product’s extended lifecycle. The antenna solution has been in continuous production for more than 19 years without any major changes to either the product design or the production test systems, demonstrating exceptional design stability and foresight.
Syntronic is currently supporting an update of the antenna solution due to last time buy (LTB) of key components. As part of this effort, the production test systems are also being updated to utilize the latest generation of test instruments, ensuring continued manufacturability and compliance.
Results
The collaboration resulted in a highly reliable, long-lived medical device product that has supported clinical workflows for nearly two decades. The stable design minimized the need for redesigns, reduced lifecycle costs, and ensured uninterrupted production over an extended period.
The ongoing update effort further demonstrates the scalability and robustness of the original design, enabling a smooth transition to new components and modernized test infrastructure without compromising performance or quality.
