Syntronic – Construction of AI-powered RAG knowledge base for EMC data – Case img
Customer: Asia Telecom Company
Project: Reference design, 5G ORAN 32T32R Massive MIMO Macro Base Station Radio Unit (Active Antenna System)

Product Description

Syntronic partnered with a leading semiconductor and wireless technology company to develop a complete 5G Massive MIMO (mMIMO) reference platform, designed to demonstrate the performance and flexibility of their latest high-performance FPGA for next-generation telecom applications.

The solution enables efficient spectrum utilization and advanced beamforming capabilities, helping network operators maximize throughput and coverage. Syntronic’s turnkey engagement model delivered a fully functional, compact, and production-ready mMIMO radio platform under an accelerated timeline, from architecture and RF design to integration, validation, and manufacturing.

Scope

Syntronic led the end-to-end architecture, design, and product realization of the customer’s 5G mMIMO radio platform. The engagement covered RF, antenna, digital, and mechanical design; PCB layout; FPGA system development, thermal simulation, signal and power integrity design, DFM/DFT/DFC analysis; and complete prototype delivery for global demonstration.

Key engineering milestones included the creation of an innovative “white-box” architecture combining high-performance FPGAs with advanced RF transceiver technology, as well as the design of a custom antenna array and enclosure that reduced the platform’s size to a portable, briefcase-sized unit.

Syntronic’s cross-functional team managed all aspects of mechanical, electrical, and RF integration, delivering rapid prototyping and production through Syntronic’s own manufacturing facility. The platform was developed and validated within one year, in time for its global debut at the industry’s leading telecommunications trade show.

Results

The collaboration resulted in a fully operational 5G mMIMO radio platform that successfully showcased the customer’s advanced FPGA and O-RAN/beamforming capabilities at a major international industry event.

The compact, production-grade design demonstrated exceptional performance and became the foundation for ongoing collaboration with global telecom partners. Multiple companies are now using the platform as a reference design for their own commercial radio development.

Key outcomes included:

  • Accelerated development timeline, delivering a functional demo within one year
  • Compact, portable radio platform, reduced to a briefcase-sized form factor
  • Enabled global partnerships, leading to new commercial applications
  • Established the customer’s leadership position in the mMIMO and O-RAN ecosystem
