Empowering tomorrow’s women in ICT: Workshops at Syntronic’s headquarters
As a global tech organization committed to contributing to positive change, Syntronic acknowledges International Girls in ICT Day celebrated today. Organized by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the day serves as a reminder of the need to promote gender diversity in the technology sector.
The theme for International Girls in ICT Day 2024 is leadership, with a focus on emphasizing the need for strong female role models in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers.
At Syntronic, the team embraces this mission wholeheartedly. A concrete example of the global engineering design house’s commitment to putting female role models in the limelight is its active participation in the Technical College program in Sweden. The program is a collaborative venture between educational establishments and the world of work.
"For a young person, it can be difficult to envision what a career in STEM has to offer. In our experience, high school students appreciate our workshops since they provide them with the possibility to ask questions and have a look at our premises."

An introduction to engineering careers
In the context of the Technical College framework, Syntronic organizes technical workshops for female high school students at our headquarters in Gävle, Sweden, multiple times each year. The latest round of workshops was held in February.
"For a young person, it can be difficult to envision what a career in STEM has to offer. In our experience, high school students appreciate our workshops since they provide them with the possibility to ask questions and have a look at our premises,” says Engineering Consultant Håkan Sjörling, who is the main coordinator for Technical College at Syntronic.
During the workshops, students have the opportunity to build and program their own robots alongside some of Syntronic's female engineers. Moreover, they get to visit the company’s state-of-the-art lab facilities and gain insights into the various career possibilities within engineering.
The importance of role models
Quality Assurance Engineer Emilie Abrahamsson is one of the coworkers who regularly participates in Syntronic's inspirational workshops as a mentor. She believes that female role models can be a useful strategy when it comes to promoting gender equality in tech.
“When girls see women that they can identify with succeeding in STEM, it ignites a spark of possibility within them – a realization that they too can opt for an exciting career in tech,” she comments.
Through initiatives like these, Syntronic hopes to contribute to bridging the gender gap in technology and inspire the next generation of female leaders in ICT. A new round of technical workshops is scheduled to take place next semester.
