Description of the thesis proposal:
Visualization of large data sets can be complicated and often requires advanced filtering and visualization libraries to convey meaningful insights for measurement data. It’s important for a user to quickly get a good overview of the data stored, as well as being able to configure and present the data in a clear way for reporting, analysis studies etc.

Measurement data are often stored in databases and presentation of the data is usually done in a traditional way, such as linear plots over time or histograms presented in graphs. Depending on the type of measurement data and the visualization purpose of it, users have their own requirements on how to view the data when displaying and analyzing results, e.g. how to present LED RGB values can differ depending on what information is sought. The potential of visualizing data has so much more to offer than the traditional plots and graphs.

The purpose of the thesis is to investigate and propose new ways to display data that a reference group will find informative and useful. This could be done in different ways:

• Manually by which you yourselves analyze data and test different plots and find the methods that works the best.
• With the help of Machine Learning.
• By a combination of both methods.
• With a method of your own choice.

An overview of the thesis work could be:

• Analyze test data to find better ways of plotting data than linear plot for certain data.
• Train a neural network to find out when the data is visualized in a clear and useful way.
• Present the work to a reference group for verification.

We are looking for two students but can scale and shift the scope of the thesis depending on experience, expertise, number of students, and length of thesis.

For a successful thesis work, we believe that the applicants should have:

• Experience in programming.
• Experience with Data Visualization.
• Interest/knowledge of Data Processing.
• Knowledge about Machine Learning (if Machine Learning track is chosen).
