Planar Microstrip High Pass Filter Design with Minimal Substrate Thickness for the 2-18GHz Frequency Range
Background:
Planar microstrip high pass filters are essential components in various high-frequency applications, particularly in microwave and millimeter-wave communication systems. Reducing the substrate thickness of these filters is a key objective, as it contributes to the miniaturization and integration of the overall circuitry. This proposal aims to design a high pass filter that operates within the 2-18GHz frequency range while minimizing the substrate thickness, achieving a compact and efficient filtering solution.
An overview of the thesis work could be:
- Design a High Pass Filter (HPF) within the 2-18GHz Frequency Range: Develop a high pass filter with desired specifications, including cutoff frequency, passband ripple, and return loss, suitable for the frequency range of interest (2-18GHz).
- Minimize Substrate Thickness: Investigate methods and techniques to minimize the substrate thickness while ensuring the filter’s performance adheres to the specified requirements.
- Optimize Performance Parameters: Conduct thorough optimization to achieve the best possible performance in terms of cutoff frequency, passband insertion loss, return loss, and other relevant parameters while adhering to the constraints imposed by the minimal substrate thickness.
- Characterize and Validate the Design: Simulate, fabricate, and measure the designed HPF to validate the achieved performance and confirm its viability for real-world applications.
The proposed thesis aims to develop a planar microstrip high pass filter optimized for a 2-18GHz frequency range while minimizing the substrate thickness. Achieving this goal will contribute to the advancement of compact and efficient high-frequency filter designs, with potential applications in modern wireless communication systems and radar technologies.
